My mom's gotten really into art collecting lately, and she need more info about provenance. She's new to this whole world and could really use some advice!
She's looking at buying a Nara print (it's an edition of 500), but the auctions and galleries selling it aren't offering any kind of certificate or solid evidence of where the print came from before.
One auction house even told her that the owner just said they bought it from certain gallery
So, she's wondering if this is normal for art prints, especially editions?
She wants to get it for her own collection and probably won't sell it, but if she ever wanted to sell it at auction way down the line, would it be a problem that she doesn't have clear evidence of its past owners?
Any advice you all have on this would be super helpful for her. Thanks a bunch
