is it worth to remove from frame?

i recently purchased some old art pieces from an auction some are like a hundred years old and the frames are kinda busted dusty and smell weird prob been in a basement or somethin is it smart to just remove from frame and stash the art somewhere safer or better for em? also if i wanna sell later is it even worth paying for new frames just to up the value?

Well, if you want to check if the peace is not forgeries, you can take them out of their frame. but it's better to store them with a frame, as it keeps them from physical damage.

I apologize for joining late. I'd take them out of those damaged frames to avoid any mold or acid damage. Just make sure to store them flat in acid-free sleeves and keep them in a climate-controlled environment. And yeah, using new archival frames can not only protect them but might also boost their resale value.

My aunt picked up a few vintage pieces from a local estate sale last year. Same deal, musty frames and all. I carefully removed the art and stored it flat in acid-free sleeves with silica gel nearby, and it made a big difference.
